EAP Your Concordia Employee Assistance Program
   FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Employee Assistance Program?

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a voluntary, confidential counselling and information service available to all employees eligible for Concordia Health Benefits, including their immediate family (spouse and dependent children up to 21 years old, as defined in your plan).

This service has been developed to help you with personal and professional problems, tensions and stress before they lead to more serious difficulties.

Is the service confidential?

This is the cornerstone of our EAP. It is a program that allows you and your family to discuss your problems and concerns in an understanding and professional environment away from your workplace.

You may rest assured that all conversations and dealings with Shepell-fgi are strictly confidential.

What kinds of issues does the EAP cover?

The EAP counsellors at Shepell-fgi will assist you with any personal and work-related concerns that may be affecting your physical and emotional well-being.

These can include such concerns as:

• Marital/relationship issues • Family issues • Personal and emotional difficulties
• Interpersonal conflicts • Multicultural issues • Work-related concerns
• Violence • Bereavement • Sexual Harassment • Substance abuse (DARP)

How does the EAP help with a substance abuse problem?

The Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program (DARP) provides employees with specialized services comprising the support, counselling, treatment and care necessary to successfully manage addictive behaviours and return to a healthy and productive life.

For service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, call 1-800-387-4765. Confidentiality is assured.

What is the cost of EAP services?

Short-term counselling sessions are available for each related concern in any given year, at no cost to you. In cases where long-term or specialized services are required, the EAP counsellor will assist you through a referral to an appropriate professional or agency in the community.

The fees for such referral services are the responsibility of the employee or family member. However, some of these services may be covered by your Provincial Health Plan or your Extended Benefits Plan.
