----The Concordia Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program (DARP)

Substance abuse can sometimes become a burden before we even realize it. If you are concerned about the effects that drugs and alcohol are having on your life, help is available through your Employee Assistance Program.

The following short questionnaire can help you decide if the use of alcohol or drugs interferes with your life.

o Are you concerned about your alcohol or drug use?
o Are others concerned about your alcohol or drug use?
o Have you experienced negative consequences as a result of your use?
o Have you noticed any recent changes in the quantity of alcohol or drug use?
o Do you have concerns about another person's addiction?

If you answered YES to at least ONE of these questions, assistance is available through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and its provider, Shepell-fgi.

The EAP provider's role:

1. Initial Assessment
o Help you determine if alcohol or drug use is a problem and to what extent it is affecting your life
o Determine the severity of abuse (mild to severe)

2. Action Plan
o Quickly direct you to the best resources available:
a. Mild to moderate abuse - Counseling with an addiction specialist
b. Moderate to severe abuse - Refer either to a provincially recognized or sponsored treatment facility, or to a private facility. (The latter will be used if no public treatment facility is available or if it can offer an appointment within two weeks.)

3. Follow-up
o Counselor will do a follow-up to monitor progress.
o Counselor will recommend a relapse prevention program.*
* Available through Shepell·fgi if circumstances warrant such action

Concordia will provide help to any employee eligible for EAP services through appropriate assessment, intervention and referral.

Shepell-fgi, in collaboration with the University and its EAP Committee, will ensure that these services are provided to any employee in need.

The costs for a treatment center will be covered by Concordia through the Employee Assistance Program. Only the counselor and the treatment center will have access to your personal information.

The CONCORDIA DRUG AND ALCOHOL RECOVERY PROGRAM (DARP) can provide employees with the support, counselling, treatment and care necessary to successfully manage addictive behaviours and return to a healthy and productive life.
